Make This A Mandatory Stop: Puerto Nuevo
If you are visiting one town in Baja California near the border, go to Puerto Nuevo. I cannot emphasize this enough. From San Diego, it’s an hour and 22 minutes away! On the same freeway, you used to get to Rosarito, keep heading South. It’s about 20 minutes away. You know you’re close if you see a huge Jesus Christ statue on your way.
Why Puerto Nuevo?
My family often visited Puerto Nuevo when I was younger for many reasons. I love this place because of the cute markets. Puerto Nuevo is a plaza and will have plenty of shops to buy blankets, outfits, poppers, pottery, and more. The vendors are way less aggressive than Rosarito’s. Now my favorite part….Food! I’m a huge foodie person, and if you love cheap and delicious food, this is your place. You will find the most delicious, cheapest lobster and margaritas! I probably repeated that my lobster and plate of food was delicious about 2000 times. For a large portion of 1 lobster, shrimps, salad, beans, rice, and tortillas…it was $15! For a small lobster, it was $18. A medium, $27. For a large, $35! The big, fat margaritas are $5 dollars and delicious!
Now, my family decided to try a new restaurant and I wasn’t a huge fan. It’s Villa Ortegas and has a large metallic shark in the front of the restaurant. (They have small margarita cups too.) It does have a nice view of the ocean. I recommend Puerto Nuevo Don Luis Resturant. I’ve attached a link to help you find it easier. For Puerto Nuevo, there are two entrances. Enter the second entrance and head down. It’s on the corner of Barracuda and Chinchorro Street nearest to the ocean. Go here! If they’re trying to convince you to enter their restaurant, it isn’t the one. There’ll be many trying to get you over, you don’t have to!
I definitely enjoyed my Spring Break. Have fun and let me know if you have any questions!
